Cosmelan - The Gold Standard for depigmentation

At Base, we are excited to re-introduce Cosmelan after its new and improved reformulation, making it even more effective with less irritation. We offer a comprehensive 6-month Cosmelan program to help you achieve clearer, more even-toned skin. Let’s walk you through what to expect—from your in-clinic treatment to the transformative months ahead.

How Does the Cosmelan Peel Work?

Unlike traditional peels that only exfoliate the surface, Cosmelan inhibits the enzyme responsible for excess pigment production, making it highly effective for conditions like:

Melasma

Sunspots & age spots

Post-inflammatory pigmentation (PIH)

Uneven skin tone

It’s also suitable for all skin types and tones, making it one of the most inclusive treatments for pigmentation concerns.

The Treatment Journey: What to Expect

Step 1: The In-Clinic Cosmelan Peel

Your journey begins with a professional-grade Cosmelan 1 mask, which is applied in-clinic and left on your skin for 6–8 hours. You Will feel no sensation besides from the application of the mask onto your skin, just like a mud mask appliation. We recommend scheduling your treatment in the morning, so you can comfortably remove the mask at home later in the day.

This powerhouse formula deeply targets pigmentation at its source, preparing your skin for the next phase of the treatment.

The First Week: Downtime & Recovery

The first 5-7 days post-peel will be the most intense of your Cosmelan journey. You will experience some redness, swelling and skin shedding as old, damaged cells make way for fresh, new skin.

Here is a more in depth look at what you may experience.

Redness – Similar to a sunburn, your skin will look very pink where the peel has been applied

Swelling – Mild - moderate puffiness, especially around delicate areas (think eyes)

Dryness & Flaking – Peeling will begin around days 2-3 and can last up to a week

Tightness & Sensitivity – Your skin will feel delicate and will need extra hydration especially in the first few weeks.

At this stage, it's crucial to stay consistent with your homecare routine and avoid sun exposure to support optimal healing.

The Next 6 Months: Homecare & Gradual Results

After the in-clinic treatment, your results will continue to improve over time. Most clients see a significant reduction in pigmentation within the first 4-6 weeks, with full results visible at the 6-month mark.

Your prescribed Cosmelan homecare products will be essential in maintaining results and preventing new pigment from forming. These will include:

Active depigmentation creams to regulate melanin production

Intensive hydration & barrier-repair products to support healing

High-strength SPF to protect your fresh, new skin

Regular check-ins at the clinic (including LED treatments) will help boost healing and enhance results.

The Importance of Sun Protection

Your skin will be extra sensitive to the sun for the entire 6-month treatment period. Daily SPF is non-negotiable—even if you’re indoors or it’s cloudy. A lack of sun protection can cause pigmentation to return, so we recommend medical-grade sunscreens like Mesoestetic Melan 130+, Dermaceutic K Ceutic, Rationale #3, or AIRYDAY for superior protection.

Is Cosmelan Right for You?

If you’re looking for a proven, long-term solution to pigmentation, Cosmelan is one of the most effective treatments available. While it requires commitment to homecare and patience during the peeling phase, the dramatic skin transformation is well worth it.
